Search filters

Image, news, and video results carry a filter bar at the top of the results. Filters apply to the current search only — they are never saved, so every query starts neutral.

Image filters

  • Size — Large, Medium, Icon.
  • Type — Photo, Clip art, Line drawing, Animated, Face.
  • Color — Full color, Black & white, Transparent.
  • Under More filters: File type (JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, SVG, WebP, ICO), Aspect ratio (Square, Tall, Wide, Panoramic), and Usage rights (Creative Commons, Commercial & other).

Image search loads more results as you scroll, and every additional batch honors the active filters.

Video and news filters

  • Videos: Duration — Short (under 4 minutes), Medium (4–20 minutes), Long (over 20 minutes).
  • News: Sort — Relevance (the default) or Most recent.

How filters behave

  • A filter applies the moment you pick it. Without JavaScript, an Apply button submits the bar.
  • Clear filters appears once anything is active and resets the bar in one click.
  • Filters belong to their vertical: switching from Images to News drops the image filters.
  • Changing a filter restarts you at the first page of results.
  • Filters compose with everything else in the query — operators, time ranges, and Safe Search all still apply.
